 At 12:30 P.M. police chief Curry radioed, "Go to the Hospital, Parkland Hospital, Have them stand by." But the massage was garbled because of a stuck open microphone on that channel. The dispatcher got through to Parkland and they began to prepare for the arrival.

As the disarrayed motorcade arrived at Parkland, the Secret Service agents rushed out of their cars, but there were no hospital attendant to be seen. As they rushed to get assistance and the press reporters from the pool car that was a few cars behind the Presidential car in the motorcade, rushed to find phones, Clint Hill removed himself from the car to wait for the stretchers. One of the reports Merriman Smith approached him and asked "How is he", Hill replied, "He’s dead Smitty".

Before the President could be removed the Governor had to be extracted first, he attempted to get up but fell-back under the pain and was assisted by agents, attendants, and others.

And it was now time to remove the President, But there was a problem, Mrs. Kennedy with her arms rapped around the President’s head in her lap sat frozen, it soon became painfully clear to Hill what the problem was, so he took off his coat and put it over the President.

From the Autopsy Section:
Mr. SPECTER. What did you observe as to President Kennedy's condition on arrival at the hospital?
Mr. HILL. The right rear portion of his head was missing. It was lying in the rear seat of the car

My name is Hurchel Jacks, Texas State Highway Patrolman. I was assigned on November 22, 1963, to drive the Vice President Lyndon Johnson in the Motorcade from the Airport to the Trade Mart.

We drove to the emergency entrance of Parkland Memorial Hospital. The President's car was stopped in the ambulance parking place. At that time I saw that the Vice President, Mrs. Johnson and Senator Yarbrough was out of my car and safely in the hospital. I went back to the President's car to see if I might assist. At that time the Secret Service Agents were removing Governor Connally from the jump seat. I could see that Governor Connally had been hit just below the right shoulder blade in the back. They removed Governor Connally, then picked Mrs. Kennedy from over the President's body. At that time one of the Secret Service Agents said he has been hit, put your coat over him. One of the Agents removed his suit coat and spread it over the President's body from his chest up.

Before the President's body was covered it appeared that the bullet had struck him above the right ear or near the temple. They removed his body at that time. Reporters began to arrive. We were assigned by the Secret Service to prevent any pictures of any nature to be taken of the President's car or the inside.

Miss BOWRON. He was very pale, he was lying across Mrs. Kennedy's knee and there seemed to be blood everywhere. When I went around to the other side of the car I saw the condition of his head.
Mr. SPECTER. You saw the condition of his what?
Miss BOWRON. The back of his head.
Mr. SPECTER. And what was that condition?
Miss BOWRON. Well, it was very bad---you know.

The President was rolled to Trauma Room #1. The first Doctor to see the President was surgeon Charles j. Carrico who administered the first treatments.

Dr. Carrico noted a small wound in the President’s front lower neck, also an extensive wound in the head were a SIZABLE PORTION OF THE SKULL WAS MISSING. He also felt the President's back and found no noticeable wounds.

The second Doctor to perform treatment on the President was surgeon Malcolm O. Perry.      
Perry noticed quite quickly that the President was wearing a back brace, a result from his severe back pains incurred from navel service during W.W.II.

Already Dr. Carruco had placed a cuffed endotracheal tube down the President’s throat and along with surgeon Dr. Ronald Jones were in the process of cutting the president’s clothing to infuse blood and fluids into the President’s circulatory system.

Dr. Charles James Carrico, surgery:
Mr. SPECTER. Will you describe as specifically as you can the head wound which you have already mentioned briefly?
Dr. CARRICO. Sure. This was a 5- by 71-cm defect in the posterior skull, the occipital region. There was an absence of the calvarium or skull in this area, with shredded tissue, brain tissue present and initially considerable slow oozing. Then after we established some circulation there

Dr. William Kemp Clark, neurological Surgeon:
"I then examined the wound in the back of the President's head. This was a large, gaping wound in the right posterior part, with cerebral and cerebellar tissue being damaged and exposed."

Dr. Ronald Coy Jones, General Surgery:
Mr. SPECTER. Will you describe as precisely as you can the nature of the head wound ?
Dr. JONES. There was large defect in the back side of the head as the President lay on the cart with what appeared to be some brain hanging out of this wound with multiple pieces of skull noted next with the brain and with a tremendous amount of clot and blood.

 Perry decided that an effective airway had to be established first, and performed a tracheotomy.
Perry was then assisted by surgeon Dr. Robert N. McClelland. Perry decided to perform the tracheotomy OVER THE BULLET WOUND since it was the point where such an operation was customarily performed and it was the safest and easiest spot to reach the trachea.
(This tracheotomy is something that would cause great confusion from that point on.)

Dr. Charles James Carrico, surgery:
Mr. SPECTER. Will you describe, as specifically as you can then, the neck wounds which you heretofore mentioned briefly?
Dr. CARRICO. There was a small wound, 5- to 8-mm. in size, located in the lower third of the neck, below the thyroid cartilage, the Adams apple.

Dr. Ronald Coy Jones
Mr. SPECTER. Will you describe as precisely as you can the wound that you observed in the throat ?
Dr. JONES. The wound in the throat was probably no larger than a quarter of an inch in diameter. There appeared to be no powder burn present, although this could have been masked by the amount of blood that was on the head and neck, although there was no obvious, amount of powder present. There appeared to be a very minimal amount of disruption of interruption of the surrounding skin. There appeared to be relatively smooth edges around the wound, and if this occurred as a result of a missile, you would have probably thought it was a missile of very low velocity and probably could have been compatible with a bone fragment of either--probably exiting from the neck, but it was a very small, smooth wound.

Other doctors some cardiologists, neurologists and anesthesiologists would assist them.

The doctors would also perform cardiac massage and a final attempt to resuscitate the President. But the President was far beyond their means of saving him and would be pronounced dead at 1:00 PM CST

About the Presidents back brace, according to  Dr. George G. Burkley (the Presidents physician)
You would hardly call it a brace. It was a canvas lower abdominal belt, of very light material and had no actual stays. It had a thickening in various portions where there were double or triple the number. They were not metal stays, or bone stays or anything of that sort. It was ... You could hardly call it a brace. It was just a small support rather than any actual brace.

BACK IN DALLAS, PARKLAND HOSPIATL:
The casket was closed and was being wheeled out when a confusing and dangerous altercation took place.
They were confronted by Dallas officials among them was Dr. Earl Rose the Dallas County Medical Examiner. As the coroner there he had the ultimate say in matters such as this, and at that time even a homicide involving the President of the United States was under his jurisdiction.
Rose informed them that, this was a homicide in Dallas and he would have to perform an autopsy.
And to make a LONG STORY short, Rose was informed that this was the President of the United States, and if he didn’t get the hell out of the way he would be run over by the casket on it's way back to Washington..
